Our students come from all sorts of backgrounds, but most commonly Kinesiology. Beverley Ball started out as a Kinesiologist, but now has been an RMT for 15 years. We spoke with Beverley to talk about her journey at CCMH and any updates that she’s encountered in Massage Therapy!

What inspired you to become an RMT?

In 2001, I had completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from York University and began working as a Kinesiologist. It wasn’t long into my new role that I realized that I needed more specialized training in order for me to feel fully confident helping members of the public, especially with my hands-on skills. Massage Therapy had always been an area of interest since receiving treatment for sports related issues throughout my teenage years.

Enrolling at CCMH was the best decision I’ve ever made! The program answered all the questions I had after graduating from university and gave me amazing confidence and skills to treat my community with success!

What are you doing now that you’ve graduated?

I have been a practicing RMT for 15 years now. I have worked in many multidisciplinary clinics over the years with some tremendously talented individuals! I recently renovated my home to create a warm and spacious clinic that encompasses the lower floor of our home. My practice has a large focus on the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction stemming from a strong referral base from local dentists. I am also currently enrolled in a 5 year program at The Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto and am very excited about this new journey!

What was your favourite part of CCMH?

There was a wonderful sense of community. We were a close group of students who enjoyed spending time together in and out of the classroom! The instructors were also a part of that community. Very approachable and great to engage with.

If you could do the program over again, what would you do differently?

To be honest, I don’t think I would do anything differently! I was involved in many aspects of the program, both in class and out of class. I tried to experience as much as I could! I studied hard and played hard!

What tips/advice would you offer future/current CCMH students?

Listen to your hands and trust them!

– Anatomy. Anatomy. Anatomy. Know how the body is interrelated.Think globally.

– Use your hands with confidence

– Do your independent study and research. Keep learning!

– Find a segment of the population that interests you and is underrepresented in your massage community. Take as much course work and training as you can on that particular area! It is great to have a niche practice, something that separates you from everyone else. Stand apart from the crowd!
