Are you applying for our Massage Therapy program and are a graduate of a Health Science or Paramedical progam? Be sure to submit a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) form along with your application package to see how we can minimize both your course load and costs. Use your Science credits/degree to give yourself a head start in completing our Massage Therapy Diploma program.
If you have previous education in Health Sciences you may be eligible to earn academic credit for learning that you have already completed. You will need to demonstrate that you have acquired the necessary knowledge at a previous institution.
Who Can Apply?
PLAR candidates must have completed a Nova Scotia High School Diploma or equivalent and post-secondary education similar to education provided by CCMH.
How Does it Work?
PLAR is done on a course by course basis. If a course covers material that you have already completed, you can ask for an assessment of your knowledge. If you have completed the course, or courses, within the previous 5 years and your grade be a minimum of 70% or if multiple courses are considered for one CCMH credit, an average of 70%. If it is greater than 5 years since you completed the course you will be required to write a challenge exam. If you obtain over 70% on the challenge exam you will be exempt from the course.
How to Apply
In order to apply for a PLAR complete the application for Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition and include your transcripts and course outlines for the specific course(s) being assessed.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact our Admissions Director [email protected] 902-484-0158
It is the applicant’s responsibility to request a PLA in a timely manner when submitting their initial application. This request must be submitted prior to their registration with CCMH. PLA’s are only done upon receipt of an official request and all supporting documents.
It may take up to three weeks to complete the PLA. Once a student is registered in the CCMH Massage Therapy Diploma Program, they can no longer request a PLA. Each PLA application will be carefully considered on an individual basis. There is a fee for any challenge exams granted through the PLA process.
Challenge exams granted by the PLA are subject to a fee.
