CCMH Students Demonstrate Massage Therapy Techniques at Charity Event

“Please pass along our sincere thanks to the students. Their gift of time is truly appreciated.”

Walk & Roll Sunnyside

This was the high praise directed towards CCMH students who donated their time and talents to support the The Sunnyside Foundation’s annual charity event in 2015. This year’s Walk & Roll fundraiser takes place on Saturday June 11, 2016, and the organizers are hoping to surpass its previous year’s fundraising goal of $45,550.

Walk & Roll is not your ordinary charity event. Last year many local artists, businesses and community leaders came together to make something truly special for all who attended.

Walk & Roll Sunnyside

The Sunnyside Foundation is a registered charity that raises funds to support senior services including research, equipment and a Community Wellness Centre. As part of the event, you can register for a 3.5km walk around the beautiful neighborhood of Stanley Park or a 1.5km roll through the accessible walkways on the Sunnyside campus. To top it all off, the Walk & Roll offers live entertainment, which last year took the form of a professional 18-piece band. There will also be numerous door prizes to be won, and a parking lot to showcase a wide range of classic cars.

Last year the event included clowns, drumming circles and face-painting. However, one of the most well received groups at the event was the College of Massage and Hydrotherapy students, who donated their massages to all who were interested.

“The massage therapy students were amazing. They were right on time and came ready for work. They were busy from the minute they arrived until the event was over. People were lining up for a massage.”

This testimonial from last year’s Walk & Roll event highlights the impact that the students of CCMH had on the community and all those that attended the event. “It is the first time some people had a massage, so it is a great way to promote the benefit of massage therapy.” At an event which had dozens of corporate sponsors and door prize donors, the students were a much appreciated addition thanks to their kindness, generosity and talent. As a Sunnyside Foundation testimonial states, “The College of Massage and Hydrotherapy has become an integral part of the success of the Sunnyside Foundation’s fundraisers. We truly appreciate the ongoing support.”

Come on by to witness the CCMH students doing what they do best, and to experience what the Sunnyside Foundation has put together. The money raised in last year’s event was able to purchase ceiling lifts for all resident rooms, and purchase the final two towel/blanket warmers so that all rooms were similarly equipped. With the funds raised in this year’s event, the Sunnyside Foundation will be able to continue to re-invest in the local community, and to increase their support for Senior’s Services and programs. Hope to see you there!
